Snows Hill

Snows Hill describes a community, an area of DeKalb County, Tennessee, and the geographical landmark which divides DeKalb County into broad sweeps “above” or “under the hill.” This region is permeated with steep hills and “hollers” which give it some dazzling views as you travel the old highway down the hill to Dry Creek, or drive out Dale Ridge Road (highway 96) on your way to Center Hill Dam and the Lake.

For residents, the boat ramp at Indian Creek near the intersection of 96 and highway 70 affords easy access to the lake. Homes range from modern buildings clustered in subdivisions to restored or restorable older structures. There are still some farms, especially as you move down the hills off Dale Ridge or toward Dry Creek. The trend with these, in recent years, has been to divide them into smaller tracts for new construction or manufactured housing amid a pastoral setting. Temperance Hall

As a landmark, Temperance Hall is a cluster of mostly older homes with a population of about 100, served by one store. The town is situated along Smith Fork Creek as it makes its way toward feeding into Center Hill Lake, and just off Dale Ridge Road as it makes its way toward the dam.

Cottage Home

Just over the border from Dekalb County in Wilson County, Cottage Home was settled along Smith Fork Creek. Nearby is the largest remaining Indian Mound in this area, still recognizable from the road. The surrounding area is given over to expansive fields and hill farms.
