Smithville, Tennessee
As the county seat of DeKalb County, Smithville is is home to offices of county government and services, the local courts on its town square, most county schools public schools, many churches and major retail stores, medical facilities and business services. The town population is approximately 4000. One weekend each summer Smithville hosts the Smithville Jamboree, an internationally known festival celebrating traditional Appalachian music and crafts(link). Center Hill Lake
Center Hill Lake is the pride of Dekalb County and a year round draw for those who enjoy fishing, boating, camping and swimming. Created with construction of a dam across the Caney Fork River by the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, the lake contains 415 miles of unspoiled shoreline. There are several large marinas, boat docks and ramps with boat rentals and camping facilities nearby. In recent years the area surrounding the lake has seen much activity in the construction of homes and communities to take advantage of the lake’s dramatic views and seasonal pleasures. Condominiums are also being built, as investment property and vacation homes.
